Broc Cellars makes wines from organic, dry farmed grapes in the North Coast of California. They are located in Berkley, so if you visit you won’t see vines, but you will taste some awesome wines. Broc Cellars pride themselves in very little manipulation. The wines are naturally fermented, mostly whole cluster for the reds, and little to know SO2, because of this non-manipulation their wines are in the natural as well as vegan-friendly categories, and wines you should seek out if you complain about additives like sulfur.

The Love Red is made from old vines, some 70 plus years old in the Mendocino County and the Green Valley of Solano County (near Napa). The wine is made of 72% Carignan, 20% Valdiguié, and 8% Syrah. Valdiguiê

The wine has a purple color with some red highlights. You can barely make out the bottom of the glass. With clearer fining/filtering you could probably see through this wine, but the haze of the grape and yeast proteins adds body to this wine, and allows for the ‘live’ changing that is so exciting with more natural wines.

The smell is of sour cherries, blueberry juice, parmesan, sweet grass, violets, unwashed button mushrooms, and oolang tea.

The mouthfeel is soft and silky.

The taste raspberry, cooked blueberries, cherry juice, herbal spices, and café au lait.

You can find it for 21.99 at Waterfront Wine and Spirits-a good deal for a natural wine!

*Valdigué (aka Gros Auxerrois)

is a grape from the Languedoc/Rousillon area of France. However, it is more widely used in California at this point and sometimes can be called Napa Gamay. It brings nice acidity to the wine, making it a great food wine as well as just a wine to drink with your loved one!
